Information Technology
THINK FUN. INTERACTIVE. INNOVATIVE.
Our IT workshops are fun and easy to learn. The theme-based activities include short lectures, illustrations, hands-on training, and Q&A sessions - all with the purpose of exposing children to teamwork and leadership in technology.
Computer Programming
Our Computer Programming workshops feature three courses of study:
Video Game Creation - Video games are here to stay. New ones are created everyday and at Techie Kids we know kids know all about them. But, do kids know video game development can be a career option for them? Our Video Game Creation workshop highlights the programming behind the game and allows kids to create their own video game storyline. We use various game development platforms including Kodu Game Lab, Scratch, Alice and Alice Storytelling, RPG Maker, and Challenge You.
Animation Production - Do you have a favorite cartoon? Most kids do. Just ask and we're sure you'll hear the excitement in their voice as they explain every detail. At Techie Kids, we use Toon Boom Animation take a child's love for cartoons to the next level. Toon Boom Studio is a proven animation software product used to improve communication and storytelling skills while cultivating the child's unique artistic abilities.
App Development - Apps are a major part of today's society. There is an app for almost everything going on in life and many kids (and their family members) have them. Our App Development workshop is designed to encourage children to be creative, to think about fun apps people could really use and to develop one. We use various app development programs including Google Android App Development and media.
Computer Support
What does a computer look like inside? Our Computer Support workshops answer this question. Kids work with a course facilitator to take computers apart and reassemble to troubleshoot hardware issues. Children get to do a thorough investigation of the inside of a computer, learn about CPU, RAM and motherboards, as well as what bytes and bits are, and how many KB make a GB. This course is right down a curious Techie Kid's alley.
Robotics
Techie Kids is in the process of incorporating the latest LEGO® Mindstorms NXT Robotics System into our IT workshop programs. These workshops offer kids firsthand experience building and programming robots. Participants learn about mechanical and construction design, problem solving, and teamwork.
Techie Kids' "ME" Production workshops give kids a basic crash course in this field. They encourage kids to embrace "the music within" to... "Create something meaningful, moving and representative of ME."
Workshops include:
LEGO Robotics NXT Workshop 1 - In teams of two, students build two different robots and program them to move, react, and make sounds.
LEGO Robotics NXT Workshop 2 - This is an intermediate level workshop in building and programming robots. For students with previous LEGO Mindstorms experience (minimum age: nine).
LEGO Robotics Afterschool Enrichment Classes - Students work in small teams, using LEGO blocks, motors and sensors, to build robots that can walk, draw, move objects, or find their own way and avoid obstacles. Students use a control console or computer to teach their robots to move, react, and make sounds in order to solve challenges.
LEGO Robotics Camp - A 5-day, fun-filled, creative learning experience that's perfect for kids to attend during the summer. Children work in pairs to solve challenges by building and programming robots using LEGO Mindstorms robotics kits.
