TK Mission:

To inspire kids and teens to discover their own unique gifts and abilities in order to create bright futures for them and make a difference in their lives and the communities in which they live. This mission includes hosting workshops and events to help kids understand the roles education, talent, and teamwork play in technology and media today.

Techie Kids Is...

A Miami-based organization that offers technology and media focused programs to children, ages 8 - 17, who participate in partnering with organizations and schools. Our workshops, which blend cutting edge technology learning with fun activities, serve as an introduction to the vast technology and media career options available today.

Our kids are enamored with technology. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation's recent study, Generation M2: Media in the Lives of 8 - 18-Year-Olds, the average young American now spends practically every waking minute - except for the time in school - using a smart phone, computer, television or other electronic device. It's not that kids love technology so much... They've just never lived without it. There are very few children who aren't technically savvy and adept at using these gadgets since they are now a part of everyday life. So at Techie Kids, our goal is to guide kids towards bright futures by encouraging innovation and creativity in technology and media as well as empowering them to use the knowledge they currently have to try something fun and new.

Techie Kids assist our partners in their efforts to make a greater impact in the communities they serve by offering programs that allow children to see how their interests can become occupations. Until recently, proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic were the keys in defining a young person's chances of success. Today, another area plays just as important a factor in creating future opportunity - TECHNOLOGY. Basic working computer knowledge is now more important than ever in putting kids on the path to becoming valued and productive members of the American workforce. However, for some public schools, tech resources are limited, which limits a child's ability to learn the basics in this field. Unlike students on the "right" side of the digital divide-kids those with home computers, computer classes and software-savvy parents - many inner-city kids simply don't have the means or support system in place to learn even the most basic computer skills.

Whether we want to believe it or not, future employment and higher education opportunities demand a basic level of "tech literacy" in high school graduates that many times doesn't exist-through no fault whatsoever of the students...

This is where Techie Kids comes in.
